HISTORY:

Long time ago, there was a Barangay named “Wagdas” located eighteen (18) kilometers away from the poblacion area of Pandan, Catanduanes. It was once part of Barangay Tabugoc and has later on separated and became an independent Barangay. It was first ruled by Vicente Arcilla.

After the term of Mr. Vicente Arcilla, he was replaced by Mr. Sanio Gan See as Barangay Captain. During the term of Mr. Gan See, a person named Alejandro Mendoza gave him a Patron named St. San Roque. They put it on their chapel in the year 1975 and became their patron. Later on, Mr. Gan See called for a Barangay assembly and asked to change their Barangay name from Wagdas into San Roque in honor for the Patron Saint that was given to them by Mr. Mendoza. The people agreed to change the name and Barangay Wagdas became Barangay San Roque.

Barangay San Roque is composed of three Puroks and four Sitios. It is one of the coastal barangay of Pandan. People here were mostly fisherman and farmers. Their main sources of livelihood were from fishing and farming. Barangay San Roque lacks in infrastructure projects compared to other Barangay. They don’t have their own School, Health Center and other facilities, the people here goes to the nearby Barangay to have an access to basic education, basic health services and many more.
