HISTORY:

Long time ago, Barangay Porot was once a Sitio of Barangay Tabugoc. Its name was originally Sitio San Jose. It was situated in the eastern part of Pandan about twenty and a half (20.5) kilometers away from the town proper of Pandan, Catanduanes.

The name “Porot” originated from the Bicol term “Mapurot” which means sticky because every time there is a rain in this place, the soil gets muddy which is very sticky or “Mapurot” in their native language.

Barangay Porot became a barangay when the government purchased a land measuring 2.5 hectares to Mr. Dominguez. One and a half hectares of which is allotted to be the school site and the remaining one hectare is the Barangay site. The first to have lived here were from the De Leon, Ibatuan, Abareta, Condeno, Idava, Bonifacio, Rosal, Balingasa, Isorena, Fernandez, De Quiroz, Tajan and Montarde family.

Due to the increasing number of population and household in the Barangay, the Barangay with the help of the Municipal government again purchased a land measuring about two hectares to be the Barangay site extension. At present there is now a new Sitio in the barangay.

Barangay Porot is composed of five Purok which is: Purok 1- San Vicente Street, Purok II- San Jose Street, Purok III – Salvacion Street, Purok IV- Sto. Domingo Street and Purok V- San Lorenzo Street.

Being one of the upland Barangay and far from the sea, the people here were mostly farmer. Abaca, coconut and lasa were their main source of livelihood.
