HISTORY:

Long time ago, there was a place located five kilometers away from the town proper of Pandan, Catanduanes. It’s a mountainous place surrounded by river on its side.

The early settlers of Barangay Panuto once called this small sitio “UROK” being located on a far place from the poblacion and surrounded by river.

Once there were two women wandering around the poblacion. They wanted to reach the place called “UROK”. They walked for so many hours to reach the place. They passed by one sitio/barangay called lumabao but because in the older times the place was not yet civilized the two women got lost on their way and they could no longer found the right way. While looking for the way in going home they unintentionally uttered the words ”panu-nato?” which means what to do. The native people heard the word “panu-nato” and because those words were new from their vocabulary, they repeatedly mentioned it until it became “Panuto” from that time, the place was called PANUTO and later on became Barangay Panuto.

In the year 1960, the Barangay Church of Panuto was constructed, nine years later the Barangay Plaza was also constructed just beside the church. A year after, the construction of the Elementary School started. The Barangay was constructed in the year 2013 and just recently, the new bridge and evacuation area was constructed.
