HISTORY:
Located about four kilometers away from the town proper of Pandan, Catanduanes is a Barangay named Catamban. The place is well situated, south of the poblacion and at the foot of High Mountain ranges extending north to south. The east of which is a river flowing northward to Pandan Bay.
Formerly, the barangay was thickly forested with a useful plant called “BANBAN”. It’s a plant with a height of about 5 feet, it has a rounded stem as thick as a man’s finger. Its stem is shiny and strips of this are used in making nipa singles and nipa hats. The officials during those times derived the name from the plant. The name used to be “Cabanbanan” but was eventually shortened to “Catamban”.
Five families were the original inhabitants of the barrio. These were headed by men namely Selvestre Eusebio, Pedro Castillo, Evaresto de Quiroz, Margarito Sabeniano and Torquato Domongo. Margarito was the most educated in the group, he became the leader and his advice was sought for in any occasion. Five families gradually multiplied and with every marriage of the sons and daughters, new houses were added. After the cholera epidemic of 1914, many families from the poblacion transferred to the barrio. The barrio was officially established in 1927.
From its establishment, these are the Teniente Del Barrio that had been selected by the people namely:
| Lorenzo Eusebio | 1927-1933 |
| Paulino dela Vega | 1934–1937 |
| Tomas Eusebio | 1938–1941 |
| Timoteo de Quiroz | 1945–1946 |
| Olomon dela Vega | 1947–1950 |
| Andres Cervantes | 1951– |
