HISTORY:

Long time ago, there was place located about twelve (12) kilometers away from the town proper of Pandan, Catanduanes. It is situated in the eastern part of the Poblacion and bounded on the east by sea. It’s a mountainous area and the people here built their houses far from each other.

There were big trees in this place and under these trees are plants called “Bagdok”. It was discovered that the plants were poisonous and can be used in catching fish. Due to the abundance of these plants in this place, the settlers agreed to name the place “Baldoc” which was derived from the poisonous plant “Bagdok”. Baldoc was used to give linguistic facility in pronunciation.

During the Spanish regime, Spanish rule was extended to the remotest barrio. Governments were organized. Juan Galicia was appointed as the first Teniente Del Barrio. For three years, he collected tributes in the form of products. The natives worked in the construction of public buildings, churches and bridges. The natives adhered strictly to the customs and laws. Forced labor, severe whippings, staying in the heat of the sun, serving the Spaniards as maid were some of the minor forms of punishment. Julian Trinidad became the next Teniente. A branch of the parochial school in town was established wherein simple Arithmetic, Reading and Writing were taught. Cosme Trinidad became the next Teniente. He served until the American regime. He served for many years. Schools were opened in Baldoc with English as the language of instruction. He was succeeded by Leon Angulo who served until the Japanese occupation. This place was not reached by the Japanese, however, some abuses were committed by some Filipino guerillas. They came and without permission, gathered several pigs and chickens. The natives gave them unwillingly. After Leon Angulo died in the second year of the Japanese occupation, Marcelo Segismundo became his successor. He served until the liberation, when he was replaced by Marcelino Bernardino, who also served until 1951. Gavino Obien became the next Teniente Del Barrio and many more has ruled the place.

In the term of the former Municipal Councilor Anastacio Rima, changes have happened in this place. Mr. Rima initiates a permanent settlement by constructing homes near each other to form a Barrio. It then became a Barangay of Pandan, Catanduanes. Many other families from nearby Sitios joined the new Barangay adding more to the population. The first elected Teniente Del Barrio in this Barangay was Mr. Sotero Trinidad.

The topographic condition of Baldoc is suitable in farming crops so the people here were mostly farmers and because the place is situated near the sea as one of the coastal Barangay of Pandan, most people here are also fisherman.

Many changes have happened in this Barangay in terms of Infrastructure and many more are yet to come.
